Description
Vintage of Château Kirwan stood up to the elements with great resilience. The year began with intensely cold weather, followed by an early rise in temperatures which was suddenly interrupted by frosts in late April that struck a number of plots. Very fortunately, the best terroirs, protected by the proximity of the Gironde estuary, were spared. Despite a wet month of June, the vines that had escaped frost damage maintained a significant advance in the vine cycle, leading to the early harvesting of a healthy crop beginning in mid-September. The wide climatic variations of the summer, with cool spells alternating with intense heat, together with storms in September (sometimes accompanied by hail) had no impact on the high quality of the grapes. The juicy, crunchy Merlot and the rich, complex Cabernet produced in this vintage testify to the capacity of the Kirwan vineyard to overcome the challenges of the climate.
