Description
The 2019 joins the list of sumptuous vintages ending in the number 9. Throughout the growing season, the vines enjoyed smooth, calm conditions. From mid-June, a dry, hot summer set in, edging the month of July towards record heat with temperatures often rising above 30°C and even hitting a high of 41°C. While this intense heat enabled the vines to escape downy mildew, it necessitated great care and attention in the vineyard, such as watering the young vines and carefully-targeted leaf thinning work. In August, more moderate temperatures favoured optimal grape ripening. A perfect balance between the amount of foliage and the quantity of grapes was observed in this vintage. Moisture supply to the grapes was ensured by very useful water reserves that had built up in our clay-gravel soils, which are proving to be an ever-greater asset in the context of global warming. These optimal conditions continued right up to the harvest with very fine end of season weather.
